ProctorTrack: Instructor and Student Guide
ProctorTrack is Lab.Computer's built-in remote proctoring integration. Once an instructor enables it on an assignment, students complete that assignment under ProctorTrack's supervision — identity verification, monitoring, and recording, depending on the level chosen. This guide covers both sides of that workflow: what instructors configure and see, and what students actually experience when they sit down to take a proctored assignment.
SSO links used throughout this workflow can expire quickly. If a link stops working partway through, the fix is almost always to generate a fresh one rather than troubleshoot the old link.

Enabling proctoring on an assignment
When creating or editing an assignment, check "Enable proctoring for this assignment" and choose a proctoring level — for example, Level 3 (Enhanced Monitoring) for a standard high-stakes exam. Depending on the level, students may need to complete an onboarding step before they can access the assignment for the first time.
Spotting proctored assignments at a glance
Proctored assignments show a blue lock icon in the Status column of the Assignments tab. Hovering over the lock reveals both the specific proctoring level and the assignment's state — Draft or Released.
Opening the ProctorTrack dashboard
From the assignment's three-dot menu next to Open, select View in ProctorTrack. Lab.Computer will try to open the ProctorTrack dashboard in a new tab automatically; if pop-ups are blocked, it copies an SSO URL to your clipboard instead — just paste that into your browser to get in.

Recognizing a proctored assignment
Students see the same lock icon in the Status column, alongside their submission state. If onboarding is required before the assignment can be accessed, the status will read "Onboarding Required."
Downloading and preparing ProctorTrack
Students should use the Download ProctorTrack button ahead of time to install it and validate their setup — camera, microphone, and any other system requirements — well before the assignment's start window, not in the minutes right before.
Completing onboarding
- Click Start Onboarding.
- Paste the SSO URL into your browser when prompted.
- Complete ProctorTrack's setup steps (identity verification, system checks).
Once onboarding succeeds, status updates to "Onboarding Complete."
Taking the exam
- Click Open ProctorTrack.
- Paste the SSO URL into your browser.
- On the welcome screen, select Go To Test to begin the proctored assignment.
Troubleshooting tips
- If an SSO link fails to authenticate, don't keep retrying the same link — generate a fresh one and try again.
- Encourage students to complete onboarding and the ProctorTrack download well ahead of the assignment's start time; system checks (camera, microphone) can surface issues worth resolving before the clock starts.
- If pop-ups are blocked in a student's or instructor's browser, ProctorTrack falls back to a copyable SSO URL rather than failing outright — check the clipboard before assuming something's broken.
