ProctorTrack Proctoring Levels: Which One Should You Use?
ProctorTrack isn't one-size-fits-all — Lab.Computer supports four escalating levels of proctoring, from fully automated identity checks to live human proctors backed by AI. Choosing the right level is a tradeoff between turnaround time, cost, and how high-stakes the assessment actually is. Here's what each level includes and where it falls short.
Level 1 — ProctorLock (Entry)
Focus: identity verification and browser restrictions.
- Fully automated identity verification with no human proctor during the exam.
- Facial scanning, ID verification, and optional knuckle scans.
- Browser restrictions on unapproved sites, plus video, audio, and screenshot recording.
- Continuous facial recognition and violation detection, with hardware scanning.
- Results typically available within 2–3 hours.
What it excludes: no live human monitoring during testing, no certified-proctor review in real time, and no immediate intervention if something goes wrong mid-exam.
Level 2 — ProctorAuto (Standard)
Focus: full automation with AI analysis.
- Everything in Level 1, plus fully automated proctoring with no human intervention during or after the exam.
- Automated violation flagging and faster turnaround — results in roughly 6 hours.
- Biometric baseline profiles and ChatGPT blocking via the PEBble Browser.
- Mobile app support and secure cloud storage with compliance certifications.
What it excludes: still no human proctors present during exams, no manual review of flagged events, and no live intervention capability.
Level 3 — ProctorTrack QA (Enhanced — Recommended)
Focus: hybrid automation plus human review.
- All automated capabilities from Levels 1–2, plus manual quality-assurance review by certified proctors.
- Roughly 99.5% accuracy, with reports delivered in 12–24 hours.
- Detects 26+ violation types using AI-powered analysis.
- Optional live pre-test onboarding, with comprehensive mobile app features.
What it excludes: proctors don't watch live during the exam itself, and there's no real-time intervention — the human review happens after the fact.
Level 4 — ProctorLive AI (Highest)
Focus: live proctors enhanced by AI.
- Certified live remote human proctors combined with AI-driven automation.
- Real-time monitoring with the ability to intervene during the exam itself.
- Exception-based monitoring built to scale, including detection of virtual machines and stealth recording applications — 100+ types.
- Roughly 99% accuracy in encrypted reports.
What it's not: traditional one-on-one live proctoring. Level 4 uses an exception-based hybrid model rather than a dedicated human watching every single student continuously.
Choosing a level

As a starting point: Level 3 is Lab.Computer's recommended default for most graded exams, since it balances automated coverage with an actual human QA pass. Reach for Level 4 only when real-time intervention genuinely matters, since it's the most operationally intensive option.
